About the HD Baby Scan

See your Baby in High Definition on the large screen with the newest ultrasound technology.

Your HD scan can take place any time after 17 weeks. But 24-28 weeks into your pregnancy is ideal as your baby will have developed certain facial characteristics, which you’ll be able to see clearly in the scan. At 20 weeks you can also find out the sex of your baby. But if you’d prefer not to know, just tell our sonographer.

All our HD scans are carried at our Baby Scan Clinic by a team of highly experienced sonographers using the HD technology scanners, in a warm, relaxed and friendly environment.

What to expect on the day

Our highly experienced sonographers are there to help you relax and will use gently warmed ultrasound gel to help you feel comfortable during your scan. This scan will document your baby’s first moves in the womb and the HD scan will be displayed live on our colour widescreen TV.

If your baby moves around in your womb, you’ll see it in real-time. It really is a magical experience that all expectant parents should witness.

Please note that gender determination will be carried out in 2D as standard. If you’d rather not know the sex of your baby, please let your sonographer know.

Preparing for an HD Scan

During the week leading up to your scan, try and drink two extra glasses of water each day. This will help to keep you well hydrated, and ensure there’s sufficient amniotic fluid around your baby to help us get a clear scan.

A full bladder isn't necessary for the HD and 4D scans. So feel free to use the toilets once you arrive at Baby Scan Clinic. Eat normally on the day of your scan but please avoid a heavy meal and caffeine in the hour leading up to your scan. If your scan is first thing in the morning, please have your breakfast beforehand.

Many expectant mums find that chocolate, sweets, fresh orange or even fizzy drinks help when trying to stimulate your baby to move. So feel free to bring some along to your appointment in case baby is sleeping.

If you arrive 10 minutes early before the scan, have a walk around as this will help wake your baby up and be ready for the scan.

I don't want to know my baby's gender, can I still have the HD scan?

Of course, just let your sonographer know before your scan. They will assure that the genital region is not scanned.

Do you have both male and female sonographers?

Baby Scan Clinic uses the most qualified and experienced sonographers and does not discriminate on gender grounds. If you require a female sonographer due to religious or personal reasons, please let us know at the time of your booking.
