About the Nuchal Translucency (NT) Scan
The “NT” in NT Scan stands for nuchal translucency and what it does is verify if your baby is having any chromosomal abnormalities and if it growing as expected.
As this may be an anxious time in your pregnancy we will make sure that you will receive a reassuring and personal service during this procedure at the Baby Scan Clinic in Glasgow.
What to expect on the day
If there is any chance that your baby will suffer of Down syndrome or any other chromosomal abnormalities, we will find out during the NT scan which takes place between the 11th and the 13th week of pregnancy. This is done by finding out which is the amount of fluid surrounding you baby’s neck.
One of our experienced and friendly sonographers will do the scan in the abdominal area and will talk you through the process. Meanwhile you will be able to see you baby in real-time on the screen. You should be aware of the fact that this appointment does not include screening tests.
Preparing for your scan
Feel free to eat and drink as normal on the day of your scan and wear loose clothing during your appointment (ideally a skirt or trousers and a top). Please drink a pint of water an hour prior to your scan, and do not empty your bladder before the examination.
